Itinerary

Villa Medici of Fiesole – starting point
You set off from the square in front of the Villa Medici of Fiesole, one of the oldest suburban residences of the Medici family, designed by Michelozzo for Cosimo the Elder. The setting is already spectacular: in front of you lies the vast basin of Florence with a view of Brunelleschi’s dome; behind you, the beautiful cathedral and the hill of Fiesole with its Roman Amphitheatre of Fiesole . The atmosphere is distinctly Renaissance: villas, cypress trees, and olive terraces.

The descent towards Caldine
Heading down toward the Mugnone stream valley, the road winds through olive groves and cypress trees and in just over half an hour reaches the valley floor. You then arrive at Caldine, a small hamlet that developed around the railway and the Mugnone stream. The landscape changes here: cultivated fields, farmhouses, small bridges, and the sound of water flowing toward Florence.
